MUSCOGEE (CREEK) NATION ATTENDS NAJA CONF. COMMUNICATION DEPARTMENT WINS AWARDS
ST. PAUL, Minn., — The Muscogee (Creek) Nation Communications Department earned three awards at the 26th Annual Native American Journalists Association Media Awards. The Native Nations Media Conference was held July 18-24 in St. Paul, Minn., at the Crowne Plaza Hotel.
The Muscogee Nation News earned second place in the tabloid category for “Best Layout.” MNN Editor and co-host for the Muscogee Nation Radio News Program Rebecca Landsberry was on hand to receive the awards.
“I’m thrilled we had the opportunity to attend the Native Nations Media Conference for the first time ever and that we were also able to bring home three awards. I hope we can continue to be involved with NAJA and keep building relationships with other Native media representatives from across the country,” Landsberry said.
Gerald Wofford, co-host of the Muscogee (Creek) Nation’s Native News Today television show received an “Honorable Mention” in the General Excellence for Television category. Dr. James Treat also received second place for his monthly column, Mvskoke Country. Cultural Reporter Ruth Bible was also in attendance.
Muscogee (Creek) Nation member Da’Rae Friday and MNN Intern Lee Longhorn attended the annual Native Voice and Project Phoenix training sessions, held in conjunction with the conference. The training seminars introduced and assist Native American college and high school students interested in the field of journalism. The students produced news stories for print and multimedia.
